For those of you looking for a scare with Halloween around the corner, the horror movie Splinter is out on DVD and available as an instant download. Directed by Toby Wilkins and filmed by Nelson Cragg, Splinter was produced in 2007 with the ARRIFLEX D-20. Read the StudioDaily interview with Editor Michael Mauer here.
Production took place in Oklahoma with three D-20s rented from ARRI CSC in New York. Every D-20 in existence has since been upgraded to D-21 status, but Cragg was nonetheless able to shoot gripping images for a film where most scenes took place at night.
Said Joe Morgenstern in his Wall Street Journal review: “This modest little genre piece is smarter than most of the overproduced and heavily marketed studio fare that’s been filling the multiplexes this fall. It’s short, taut, nicely shot, well-acted, astutely directed, specific where it might have been generic, original enough to be engrossing and derivative enough to be amusing.”
